The Probus Club of Sherborne

Probus Clubs are a worldwide organisation for retired or semi-retired PROfessinal and BUSiness people. Some are gender specific, others mixed. Their aim is to promote social activities for like-minded individuals. Each club is autonomous having it's own constitution and rules, and is run by elected committee members.

The first UK Probus Club was formed by the Rotary Club of Caterham in 1966. The Probus Club of Sherborne was established for gentlemen at an inaugural meeting held on 11th April 1978 at the Slessor Club, Long Street, Sherborne.

Our Club meets fortnightly for a talk by a member or invited guest speaker. This is followed by an optional lunch . In addition there are outings to a variety of attractions (e.g. historic houses and gardens, museums, etc) and events. Partners and guests are welcomed to these. Features of the club calendar include the Ladies lunch and the Christmas Lunch for members and their guests.

There is a small membership fee currently of £50 per year to pay for the Cub's expences which almost exclusively the cost of visiting speakers.
